Three Oaks A&E Center offers Two-Day Guitar Workshop with Ron Spears
The Three Oaks Arts & Education (A&E) Center is offering a two-day Guitar Workshop Saturday and Sunday, March 3 and 4, from 2 to 4:30 pm, Eastern Time. The workshop is open to intermediate and advanced guitarists, age 15 and over.
According to instructor Ron Spears, the workshop will explore chord/melody approaches to both solo and accompanist performances with an emphasis on right-hand picking techniques, using both jazz standards and old-time blues guitar tunes. Students must have a good understanding of chord forms and progressions, and be able to play up and down the neck of the guitar.
The workshop is limited to eight students. Students must bring a guitar, notepad and pen or pencil. A smartphone with video capability is recommended. Cost is $35 for both days or $20 for Saturday only. Since the second day of the workshop builds on the first, Sunday-only registration is not available. The cut-off date for registrations is Thursday, March 1. To register, contact Spears at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Ron is a well-known local performing guitarist and a member of Ah Tu, a popular acoustic group that plays in Southwest Michigan and Northwest Indiana. He has studied under Tony do Rosario, a Chicago jazz guitarist; Jorma Kaukonen of Jefferson Airplane & Hot Tuna, and Garth Taylor, founder of the School of American Music. He also has a PhD in biochemistry, and for many years operated his own wine importing company.
The Three Oaks A&E Center is located at 14 Maple Street in Downtown Three Oaks, MI.
